When Renting is a Better Option Than Buying

START SLIDESHOW >>

Finding housing can be a frustrating issue that you have to deal with during the majority of your lifetime. Your personal housing needs will shift and change as you enter adulthood. There may be times where renting an apartment or home could be a much more viable option. Here are a few situations when renting a home could be a better option than buying a home.

You Aren’t in Great Financial Shape

First off, renting is a great option if you aren’t in great financial shape. Often, monthly rental payments are a lot more manageable than buying a house, especially if you create and stick to a firm budget when you are house hunting. However, be vigilant of renting prices, as sometimes your monthly rent could be equal to a monthly mortgage payment. If you have sufficient savings, this could mean that you could potentially buy your own home with a mortgage rather than paying super expensive rent.

When You’re in a Place for the Short-Term

Renting can also be a beneficial option for you if you’re only planning on living in the same location for a short period of time. For example, if you are doing sales or participating in a study abroad or internship for the summer, you’ll probably only need a small, cheap apartment to get you through the summer. Apartments are a more affordable housing option if you don’t need a lot of space. Even if you’re in college for a few years, renting can be a good option for you. This can help you to save money and avoid the hassle of buying a property when you’re only going to be in that location for a short time.

If You Need Flexibility

Renting can also be a great option for you if you want more flexibility in your life. If you are prone to moving often, making spontaneous decisions, or going on adventures, renting could be great for you because it allows you to be more flexible. Selling a home can be a tedious and difficult process, and dealing with a mortgage can be financially heavy. If you choose to rent rather than buy, you won’t run into these issues and will have more flexibility and freedom
