You should visit the dentist every six months for a regular checkup. During this checkup, your dentist will give your teeth and mouth a cleaning that is more thorough than what you do at home. Gum disease is largely caused by a build-up of plaque in the mouth and a deep cleaning can remove this plaque. 

Additionally, your dentist knows what risk factors and warning signs to look out for. They can take note of these risk factors and address them. They can also monitor any risks from cleaning to cleaning to see if anything is progressing. Visiting your dentist regularly can help you avoid many preventable dental issues.

Care for Your Teeth

First, you should choose between an electric or a manual toothbrush. An electric toothbrush does a better job of fighting plaque. A manual toothbrush, however, offers you more variety. As you choose your brush, you should consider the bristles, handle, and even the size of the toothbrush. Each feature impacts how well you’re brushing your teeth. You also need to make sure you are changing out your toothbrush regularly. You should change out your toothbrush every 3-4 months. 

While the results of gum disease may be frightening, you have the power to prevent it. It’s your responsibility to care for your oral health. Make sure you create a routine that gives your teeth all the attention they need.
