5. Check Your Credit Score
That’s the obvious one, right? In order to improve your score you need to see what you’re working with.
You can request a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months from annualcreitreport.com.
It will give you the report from the three major credit bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian).
There are also websites that when you sign up you will have access to your credit score report such as CreditKarma.com
It’s important that you check for inconsistencies and errors that you may have to dispute. In particular, make sure there is no late payments incorrectly listed for any of your accounts and that the amounts owed for each of your open accounts is correct.
If you find any errors on any of your reports, dispute them with the credit bureau.
