Many people think about the piles of work that they have waiting for them on Monday, or they might even take work home with them on the weekends as a way of trying to catch up. On top of that, you might even have a boss who is calling you at home on your cell phone. Today, it’s more expected that you respond to text messages within an hour or even a few minutes. This can make it difficult to create a separation of work and your personal life. Even if it’s just for an hour or two every night, you need to make the time for family and self-care.
Trying to quit harmful substances is stressful enough, but addiction often coincides with other mental health issues. In a national study of co-occurring disorders, the Journal of the American Medical Association found that 37 percent of individuals with alcohol dependence also suffered from a mental health disorder, while over 50 percent of individuals who abused drugs also had a psychiatric illness. Mental health disorders create extra stress that makes solving addiction problems even more difficult.
While having children can be one of the greatest joys that a person can experience in life, if your child is struggling with something, this can put stress on you, too.
