3 Obstacles That Can Get in the Way of Starting a Business

START SLIDESHOW >>

Starting a business can be difficult and can come with a lot of unanticipated challenges. Nevertheless, starting a business can also be one of the most satisfying things a person can do, as well as money-savvy. Regardless of the obstacles that may arise, never lose hope in your entrepreneurial dreams. Here are three things that can get in the way of starting a business and how to eliminate them.

Financing

One of the biggest concerns of fledgling entrepreneurs is how to face financial difficulties during the beginning stages of the business process. Even if you continue working your day job, it can be expensive to start a business. You will probably need to look for people willing to invest in your business and loan you money. To increase your chances of getting a loan—whether from a bank or a private lender—you will need a good credit score. If you aren’t wanting to get a loan, you can always bootstrap your business until revenue comes in.

Business Regulations

Starting a business requires that you consider different regulations depending on your target industry. For example, OSHA requires you to adhere to certain safety standards in the workplace. There are also advertising regulations and licensure. For example, if you are starting a copywriting business, you will need to be wary of what constitutes a fraudulent claim, as well as policies regarding spun content. Or, if you are creating an ingestible product, you will need to ensure that it is FDA compliant.

New Lifestyle Pattern

Starting a business is fun and fulfilling, but it is far from being like your 8-5 day-job. There are no cushy benefits (like health insurance) and it can sometimes be a little uncertain and stressful. You may be up all night or spending holidays working or answering phone calls. But this shouldn’t be a reason to give up your entrepreneurial dream. A bit of extra work now will save you a lot of time and work in the future. Many seasoned business owners spend no more than a couple hours a day, or even a couple hours a week, managing their business. So, though entrepreneurship necessitates flexibility and adaption, you will get used to this lifestyle and never want to work another regular day-job again!

No matter what industry you are getting into, there will always be obstacles in starting a new business. But don’t let this deter or discourage you. As long as you have a flexible, adaptable mindset—and are prepared to overcome any obstacles—you will, in no doubt, find success.
